How private is a Family Connect site?
Family Connect is invitation-only. There is no public sign-up, no browsable index of families, and no advertising anywhere on the platform.
Every family site is isolated from every other family site at the database level, so a member of one family cannot read, search, or infer anything from another family's records — including through the Family Historian.
Who can see a member's details?
Each member chooses the visibility of their contact details, profile fields, and stories. A member can share a phone number with immediate family only, with the whole site, or with nobody.
Living people are protected by default. Details of living relatives are not exposed in public-facing pages, and a member can be listed on the tree without their personal information being shared.
Who owns the content?
The family owns the records, photographs, stories, documents, and recordings it contributes. Administrators can export the tree and library at any time.
If a subscription lapses, the site is preserved in a read-only state rather than deleted, so the record and its stories remain intact and full access returns when the subscription resumes.
How are accounts secured?
Sign-in uses email or Google, with two-step verification by emailed one-time code. Devices a member trusts can be remembered so the code is not needed every visit.
Roles limit what each person can change. Owners and administrators manage the site, stewards review contributions, and members maintain their own profile and stories.
How AI features handle family data
The Family Historian and digital personas answer only from the family's own records, on that family's site. Family data is not used to train public AI models and is not shared between families.
Administrators can see how much AI time the site has used and review the historian's conversations.
